KENT CITY, Michigan (WZZM) - One person died in a crash on 20 Mile Road NW near Kent City early Friday morning.

The Kent County Sheriff's Department says 22 year old Kelby Hunter Freeland died in the crash, which happened shortly before 4 am.

The Sheriff's Department reports Freeland was driving a 2001 Volvo when he lost control and ran off the road. The car rolled over several times before hitting a tree. Freeland was ejected from the car, and it landed on top of him. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The passengers, Brandon Adams, 25, and Jacob Peterson, 24, were able to crawl out of the car and get help. They both suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Because of the crash, 20 Mile NW was closed between Peach Ridge and Fruit Ridge for several hours, but has now been reopened to traffic.
