GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Police say the basement meth lab they found in a Grand Rapids house Friday is not something they see every day.

A WZZM 13 viewer called our Information Center around 5:30 Friday night to tell us about the drug bust at a home in the 1100 block of Broadway northwest, near Leonard.

Police took several people into custody and seized a meth lab from the basement. They say the lab was used to produce small amounts of methamphetamine.

Officers say this is not an every day problem. Seargent Michael Maycroft says, "Meth labs in and of themselves are not a big problem in the city of Grand Rapids. I think a lot of the people see it's more of a rural issue. Right now, we're thankful it's not a major problem in the city."

Police and firefighters sealed off Broadway during their investigation due to the hazardous chemicals used to make meth. A special Michigan State Police Team removed the lab and chemicals from the house.

Officers are not saying how many people may face charges in the bust.
