UPDATE: I-96 crash involving semi kills teenager

WALKER, Mich. (WZZM)-- Michigan State Police have identified the teenager died in a crash Saturday morning involving a semi.

The crash happened on eastbound I-96 near U.S. 131 in Walker shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Troopers believe Ashley Donnelly, 25, of Bay City missed her exit, stopped, backed up and began crossing the highway when a semi-truck her car.

Her sister, 17-year-old Autumn Elwell, died in the crash. She was sitting in the front seat of the car.

Donnelly was taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital with serious injuries.  She was listed in fair condition Saturday night. The driver of the semi-truck, a 46-year-old man from Ohio,  was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

State Police shut down a portion of the highway for more than two hours to investigate and clean up the crash.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident.
