GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- A Grand Rapids-area man has been sentenced to seven to 15 years in prison for causing the accidental drug death of a 1-year-old boy.
Gregg Busby, 60, pleaded guilty Aug. 28 to involuntary manslaughter in the Feb. 10 death of Antonio Garcia-Lazarski. Kent County Circuit Judge Dennis Leiber sentenced him Thursday.
Busby says he gave Antonio a mixture of morphine and Benadryl in a cup of juice in order to calm the boy. Busby was living with the boy's grandmother at the time at her home in Gaines Township.
The boy had a chronic inherited disease that affected his lungs and bones. The Grand Rapids Press says that morphine was not one of his medications.
