GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - A 22-year-old man already serving time for another crime is being charged in a 2007 murder in Grand Rapids.

The Kent Metro Cold Case Team arrested Alvon Marquis Davis last week in the murder of Russell Griffin, who was 19 at the time.  Griffin was killed as he entered his residence on Cromwell Ave. SE in the early morning hours of April 9, 2007.

Kent Metro Cold Case Investigators say they opened the case after developing new leads. The investigation pointed to Alvon Davis, who is currently incarcerated at the Ionia Maximum Correctional Facility for an unrelated crime.

Davis waived his preliminary hearing on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 in the 61st District Court before Judge Laville. He remains in the Kent County Jail pending a status conference.
