MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Mount Pleasant woman missing since Wednesday morning has been found dead.
Rebekah Gay, 24, was last seen yesterday morning. Her body was found Thursday in a ditch near Pickard and Coldwater Roads in Mt. Pleasant.
Police are now calling it a homicide and have arrested 55-year-old John White of Mt. Pleasant. He's being charged with open murder and first degree pre-meditated homicide.
According to the Mount Pleasant Morning Sun newspaper, White reportedly confessed to killing Gay, saying he had watched violent pornography and fantasized about murdering a neighbor.
Police believe White hit Gay over the head several times with a rubber mallet and then put a zip tie around her neck. It's estimated she died between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Gay's three-year-old son was at home when the murder happened. Police are interviewing the boy, but are not sure if he witnessed his mother's death.
After he killed Rebekah Gay, police say White then took care of her son and dressed him in his halloween costume for trick-or-treating.
