The owner of Michigan Beer Cellar in Sparta has put his business up for sale on Craigslist.
SPARTA, Mich. (WZZM) - The owner of a micro brewery in Sparta says he's getting lots of interest from potential buyers of his beer business.
Michigan Beer Cellar owner Dan Humphrey put an ad on Craigslist this week offering his brewery for sale.
"The whole brewery," he says. "All the equipment, the recipes. We've had a lot of interest."
Humphrey opened Michigan Beer Cellar two and a half years ago.
He says he's had fun building the brewery and perfecting the beer recipes, but now that he's got the business going he'd like someone else to take it to the next level.
"I enjoyed building it, but running it is more than I want to do," he says. "Now it's time for someone else to grow it."
When they hear about a possible sale, many customers worry about the beer.
"They have some nice beers here," points out customer Michael Riley.
"I don't know if the beers will be as good as they are now," says customer Robert Walma. "I like the beers the way Dan makes them."
Humphrey says beer making instruction is included in the $540,000 dollar asking price.
"With the price there is also the training that goes along with it," he explains. "I'll train them to run the brewery."
Humphrey says the business is successful and profitable and will stay open during the transition to a new owner.
