American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids needs volunteers
HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - Hurricane Sandy is impacting the American Red Cross' ability to collect blood donations along the east coast.
The Red Cross held a blood drive at the Holland Township fire station on Riley Street and some had to wait an hour because of the number of people responding. Red Cross officials say many understand the need and are willing to wait.
"Hundreds of blood drives are getting cancelled on the east coast, so whatever we can do to replenish that supply here, we're more than happy to help out, so that's what we're doing today, and everyday," says Ashley Minor, Donor Recruiter for the Red Cross in Ottawa and Kent Counties.
The Red Cross scheduled about 20 blood drives throughout the state.
