MUSKEGON HEIGHTS & MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM)- Congratulations to the following Breakfast on the Go: Teacher's Edition winners!

Suzanne Zeil, Edgewood Elementary

Nominated by Sonya Hernandez, Principal

I am glad that you extended the opportunity to nominate. I heard about this and hoped that I would have the opportunity to nominate a teacher. I am the principal at Edgewood Elementary in Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System, the first district to convert an entire k-12 system to a charter.  I have the most incredible staff!!! I wish I could nominate them all, but if I have to pick one, I would like to nominate Ms. Suzanne Zeil. She is a first year teacher and she is teaching 2nd grade. She defines perseverance! Her dedication and commitment to her students and our school is awesome.  If you decide that you want to honor my whole staff.....they are all so worthy! Thank you.

Courtney Schaab-Olsen, White Lake Area Community Education

Nominated by Bob Switzer, Attendance Officer/Student Retention

The teacher I would like to nominate is Courtney Schaab-Olsen from White Lake Area Community Education.  She is new to our alternative education program this year and has implemented some great new teaching tactics to get through to our consistently unmotivated teenage students.  Her biggest success so far began with starting the "Oreo Club", in conjunction with our reading specialist, to get students who don't normally read for pleasure (because they struggle with reading or can't read above an elementary level) an opportunity to TRY during the school day.  We now have an ever growing library of donated books, some of them even from the students, to continue her program and it's success.  She is great at building strong teacher/student relationships and using their strengths to build up their weaknesses.  Her students would tell you the same great things about her and her teaching methods. Thank you for your consideration of Mrs. Schaab-Olsen and I hope you choose to recognize her commitment to our students.

Kate Bultema, Orchard View High School

Nominated by Kourtney Brewer, Student

My name is Kourtney Brewer, I attend Orchard View High School in Muskegon.

I want to nominate Kate Bultema. She's an outstanding teacher, & bends over backwards for OV. Mrs. Bultema's  a special-ed teacher, not only does she attend her students but to everyone. We organized an Anti-Bully club at OVHS, shes always helping with that & everything else. Shes the most kind-hearted teacher i know. Thats why Mrs. Kate Bultema  deserves this.

Jefferey Dunn, Forest Hills Orchard View

Nominated by Lauren Hicks, Student

Hello, My name is Lauren Hicks. The teacher I would like to nominate Jefferey Dunn at Forest Hills Orchard View Elementary.

I think he is a great teacher because he created an octa-ball pit for the kids with his own money. He also came up with something called C.S.I where he gives them a case and they do labs and interrogation to try to solve the case.

He also came with games called Amazing Race, Survivor, and Iditarod. That is why I think he deserves a gourmet breakfast.
