Video: First voters line up before polls open

Faith Lutheran Church polling place - 7:00am

(WZZM) - The polls are open in West Michigan.

At Faith Lutheran Church on Fuller Ave. NE in Grand Rapids, voters started lining up about 6:30 am, waiting for the polls to open at 7 am.

Officials are anticipating a high turnout.  In Kent County there are 435,000 registered voters. County Clerk Mary Hollinrake is expecting at least 70% turnout, which would be more than 300,000 people.

With the Presidential race, Senate race, local and regional races, as well as six ballot proposals, voters do have a long ballot to look over. Some voters who went to the polls early this morning said it took each voter about 13 to 14 minutes to finish their ballots.  So, voters will want to give themselves plenty of time at the polling place.

The polls are open until 8 pm in Michigan. Anyone who is in line at the time the polls close will be allowed to vote.
