2012 voter turnout does not match '08's

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Fewer Michigan voters cast ballots in this year's presidential election than did four years ago.

A worker at the Secretary of State's office estimates about 66% of registered voters statewide voted in Tuesday's election.  The 2008 number was 68%.

In West Michigan, the highest voter turnout was in Ottawa County where 71% of registered voters cast ballots. That's six percentage points lower than in November 2008.

Kent County had a voter turnout of roughly 69%.

In Grand Rapids, about 61% of registered voters cast ballots.

In Muskegon, an estimated 59% voted.
