UPDATE (Saturday 6 p.m.)–The sister of a 12-year-old boy who crashed the family car says he was trying to visit his mother, who was at work.

The boy took his parent's Plymouth Breeze for a ride in Grand Haven Township Friday afternoon. Witnesses tell Ottawa County deputies that the boy veered off 144th Avenue several times and barely missed other vehicles before he completely lost control of the car, hitting a phone cable box.

The vehicle flipped, trapping the boy inside. Firefighters had to pull him from the wreckage. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in good condition Friday evening.

Deputies say the child was wearing a seatbelt.
