(WZZM) -- When it comes to holiday shopping this year, the National Retail Federation predicts a slight increase in spending.

The organization's latest survey found the average shopper will spend about $749 on everything including gifts, decorations, greeting cards and more. That's only $9 more than last year. Most of that money will be spent on gifts for family.

About 40 percent of that money will be spend on gifts for family. Additionally, about 40 percent of Americans began their holiday shopping before Halloween and more than half will shop online.

The National Retail Federation says 4 percent of Americans will wait until the last possible minute to shop.
