FAIRPLAINS TWP., Mich. (WZZM) - Two people are under arrest and two others are being sought after a Montcalm County Sheriff's Deputy stopped a tire theft early Wednesday morning.
According to the Sheriff's Department, the deputy came across what he thought was a stranded motorist at the intersection of West Carson City Road and South Sheridan Road at about 1:00am. It turned out that the four suspects were attempting to steal the tires and rims from the vehicle.
The suspects fled in a 2004 Chevrolet Tracker south on South Sheridan Road, but left the roadway hitting a road sign and trees near West Fenwick Road and South Collins Road. The four suspects took off on foot into the woods, but two of them, an 18-year-old from Grand Rapids and an 18-year-old from Ada were caught and arrested. They face charges of larceny, fleeing and eluding, and resisting arrest.
The other two suspects have not been located, but the investigation is continuing.
