HART, Mich. (WZZM) -- A 15-year-old boy is recovering from surgery following a Newaygo County hunting accident.
It happened around 9 a.m. Thursday in Denver Township, according to Michigan State Police. They say it happened inside an elevated hunting blind from which two people were hunting.
Troopers say the teenager was shot in the lower leg, which was the result of the accidental firing of a high-powered rifle.
The boy was taken to Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont, then moved to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The teenager required immediate surgery for his injuries, which troopers described as serious but non-life threatening.
The shooting remains under investigation.
