Muskegon, GR Christian, South Christian & West Catholic advance to state finals

Four West Michigan teams are left standing and will complete the journey to Ford Field for the MHSAA state football finals.

Muskegon, Grand Rapids Christian, South Christian and West Catholic all won their semifinal matchups Saturday to advance.

In Division 2, Muskegon topped Caledonia 34-21.  

Big Reds quarterback Jalen Smith rushed for 141 yards as Muskegon advanced to the title game for the first time since 2008.

Muskegon takes on Birmingham Brother Rice in the championship next Friday at 1:00 pm.

Grand Rapids Christian's explosive offense had another monster day against DeWitt in the Division 3 semis.

MSU recruit Drake Harris caught three touchdowns in the first half as the Eagles beat the Panthers 52-28.

Christian will face Orchard Lake St. Mary's in the Division 3 final next Saturday.

In Division 4, South Christian topped Comstock Park 21-7 to reach the finals for the first time since winning the state championship in 2002.

The Sailors meet Detroit Country Day in the final at 7:30 on Friday.

And in Division 5, West Catholic scored in the final minute to beat Menominee 21-17 at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

The Falcons will play for their second state championship in three years when they take on Portland next Saturday.
