Car involved in chase on northbound U.S. 131 near Wayland.
UPDATE- As of Wednesday morning, Allegan County Dispatch says the suspect has been caught. He is now in custody and being held at the jail.
WAYLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- Michigan State Police troopers and Allegan County deputies are searching for a man who led police on a pursuit on U.S. 131.
The chase began around 6 p.m. Tuesday on northbound U.S. 131, and ended a short time later north of Wayland. The suspect vehicle, a gray Buick sedan, hit spike strips officers had placed across the freeway and rolled into a ditch on the east side of the road.
The suspect, a black male, was seen running into a wooded area east of the freeway. Police from several different agencies have established a perimeter to search for him.
Officers were seen searching the suspect's vehicle, even ripping up carpets inside the car.
Deputies and troopers at the scene have refused to say what led up to the pursuit.
