WZZM 13's Peter Ross goes shopping for Thanksgiving at a local Meijer store.
WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) - My assignment on the day before Thanksgiving - go grocery shopping to find made in Michigan Thanksgiving foods.
I had mixed luck at the Meijer store on Alpine. The turkeys were from out of state - but I did find a nice spiral ham from the Dearborn Sausage Company.
There were winter squash from across the country - as well as from Fremont and Hudsonville. Also on hand were plenty of Michigan potatoes - and even some cranberries, courtesy of the Michigan Cranberry Co. in Cheboygan.
Michigan apples were in short supply - this was a terrible season for the local growers, although there were plenty of Washington apples.
Local dairy products were easy to find - milk and ice cream from Dean's, Country Fresh and Meijer's own brand.
And the choices in adult beverage were overwhelming - especially beers brewed in Michigan, not to mention many wines.
Happy Thanksgiving!
