ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A man is facing child abuse charges after investigators say he severely injured his infant daughter.
Ryan Kupres, 28, is charged with first-degree child abuse and habitual offender status. He was arrested Wednesday by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.
Detectives began their investigation seven months ago, when then-four-month-old Layla Kupres was admitted to Zeeland Community Hospital. The infant had suffered broken bones and a closed head injury.
Layla spent an extended period of time in the hospital. She is now in foster care.
At the time of the girl's injuries in March, detectives said they wanted to talk with Ryan Kupres about what had happened to his daughter -- but they did not name him as a suspect. They believe the child was injured at her home, where Kupres was a frequent visitor.
Kupres has a 2008 child abuse conviction, and spent one year in custody for that charge.
Kupres is being held on a $50,000 bond.
