Berlin Baptist Church in Marne donated 407 pies for this year's Thanksgiving banquet.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-Volunteer cooks helped fill thousands of stomachs Thursday, as part of Mel Trotter Ministries' Great Thanksgiving Banquet.
This was the 16th year for the feast, which feeds more than 2,000 people every Thanksgiving. It took plenty of planning and more than 700 volunteers to transform DeVos Place into a giant dining room for the big event.
"We just love to be able to minister with food and help people out," said Van Skoglund, director of food service for Mel Trotter Ministries.
Skoglund says volunteers prepared 1,500 pounds of turkey, 400 pounds of green beans, 800 pounds of stuffing and 1,000 pounds of mashed potatoes for the banquet. The congregation at Berlin Baptist Church in Marne also donated 407 pies for the meal.
