(WZZM) - An Upper Peninsula teenager who fought to change state guidelines so he could play on his football team, is being honored by Sports Illustrated.
Eric Dompierre is the winner of Sports Illustrated's Underdogs competition.
The 19-year-old, who has down syndrome, fought to change the Michigan High School Athletic Association's age guidelines so he could play for Ishpeming his senior year.
Dompierre finally won his fight this year.
As part of the online contest, the teenager will receive a $25,000 grant and a trip to the award ceremony in New York City.
