GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The guys from WGRD's Free Beer and Hot Wings show helped WZZM 13's Lauren Stanton test out a variety of stocking stuffers.
They were big fans of the bearded beanie hat called the "Beardo". It's a knit hat that has a Velcro beard and mustache attached. Lauren kept seeing it on Facebook ads. It's a little pricey, but worth it for the laughs for around $36 on various sites online.
Stompeez were also a big hit. They are slippers with various animal heads. When you walk, the mouth pops open. Kids would definitely have fun with these. We found them for as cheap as $9.99 at Walmart, but most stores were selling them for $19.99.
A big flop was the Kids Bop series of microphones. They come in a number of songs performed by Kids Bop. We found them for $6.99 but they're not worth that much. They only play about 8 seconds of the song and the microphone doesn't do anything. It doesn't amplify or do anything to your voice. We wouldn't buy this one.
The less expensive items started with the RJ Reindeer Poopin' Pets. We found a reindeer that comes with jellybeans. You load the candy into the reindeer like a Pez dispenser, and with a tug of the tail, it releases the jellybeans out the other end. It didn't work that well, probably not a good stocking stuffer.
Two $1.00 items were tested. The Cookie Coloring Kit. It comes with a shortbread cookie that has a design on the top that can be colored with 4 flavored food colors that look like markers. I think kids would have fun with this, it colored nicely and the cookie was surprisingly fresh. It's a Made in the USA product and worth the $1.00.
Finally, you've probably seen the whole line of lip balms that come in various flavors of soft drinks like Pepsi or Mountain Dew. For $1.00, these were also fun and did in fact smell and taste like Mountain Dew.
