HOLLAND, Mich (WZZM) -- Holland will soon get another battery business. Our partner, the Detroit Free Press, is reporting that the government is awarding $120 million to a Chicago laboratory, which will build a battery research facility in Holland and Ann Arbor.
The Department of Energy is expected to announce the agreement Friday.
The news comes just two months after a 13 On Your Side investigation into LG Chem. The investigation revealed the federally funded manufacturer has not produced a single battery so far. A company spokesperson told our partner, the Grand Rapids Business Journal that electric and hybrid batteries are not yet in demand.
