GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - Over 1000 gymnasts will be competing in Grand Rapids this weekend for "Gymnastics on the Grand".

Hosted by Grand Rapids Gymnastics, this three-day event, sanctioned by USA Gymnastics, will feature 1,500 gymnasts, both boys and girls, from the Midwest region. Two former USA Olympians will also be on hand to sign autographs.

The highlight of the weekend will be the Saturday evening session. Spectators can enjoy the full range of gymnastics - from the youngest athletes participating in the "fun meet" to the highest level men and women athletes performing in the Ballrooms. To kick off the session, Special Olympic athletes will perform a short exhibition of their gymnastics skills at 4:45pm.

"Special Olympics Michigan is excited and honored to be a part of such an awesome event! It is great that our athletes have the opportunity to showcase their talents with people who share the same passion for gymnastics as they do. It is so important for everyone to witness the capabilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities," says Special Olympics Michigan Public Relations and Social Media Manager, Mallorie Stiger.

To celebrate the success of the United States in this summer's Olympic Games, Grand Rapids Gymnastics is proud to announce two special guests will be on-site during the Invitational: three-time Olympian John Roethlisberger, and Olympic Medalist Alicia Sacramone. Throughout the weekend, there will be autograph sessions with the Olympians - Alicia Sacramone will be available all day Friday, November 30th. John Roethlisberger will be in attendance all weekend.

John was a member of the USA National Team from 1988 through 2000. Alicia Sacramone was a member of the Silver Medal winning US Olympic team in 2008.

"With the exciting win by the U.S. women's gymnastics team this summer at the London Olympics, the sport of gymnastics is more popular than ever. We are proud to host more than 1500 athletes performing in front of record crowds. Come check out the heart and determination of these athletes and get inspired by meeting former Olympians John Roethlisberger and Alicia Sacramone" says Shane Uson, owner and head coach of Grand Rapids Gymnastics.

Over 20 vendors will be on-site during the three day weekend offering a broad range of items. Competition will take place Friday 8:00am - 9:00pm, Saturday 8:00am - 9:00pm and Sunday from 8:00am - 9:00pm. For a detailed schedule of sessions and more information, go to
