A National Guard brass band, veterans and people in period costume marched through downtown streets for the Grand Rapids Memorial Day Parade.

MUSKEGON, Mich (WZZM) -- A Muskegon funeral home will host a free meal to thank veterans.

The owners of Clock Funeral Home say Memorial Day and Veterans Day are too busy for veterans, so they are starting a new tradition.

The funeral home is inviting any veteran to stop in on Wednesday for a free dinner with a variety of chili dishes and baked items. Those who attend will also receive a small gift to hang on their Christmas trees.

Staff members have the funeral home decorated and they hope to say "thank you" to 50 or more veterans on a day veterans have fewer commitments.

"We know there are way too many things and not enough hours in the day for them to get to all the places they are invited to," says Jodi Clock of Clock Funeral Home.

The Veterans Appreciation Dinner is open to any area veteran. It runs from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 5. The funeral home is located at 1469 Peck Street in Downtown Muskegon.
