WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Grand Valley State University student is dead after being struck by a car Friday night.

The accident happened just after 7 o'clock Friday night, on Three Mile Rd. near Nolan Ave., in Walker.

Police say three friends were travelling from the GVSU Allendale campus to a home in Comstock Park when they got into an argument.

The driver pulled off the road and one of the women got out of the car to walk the rest of the way.

Officers say 19-year-old Jessie Winterholler was crossing Three Mile Rd., trying to catch up to her friend, when she was hit by a car.

Winterholler, who was from Trenton, died instantly.

The accident shut down Three Mile between Wilson and Kinney Avenues for nearly 4 hours.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident.
