GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- The woman who unseated State House Representative Roy Schmidt after his party-switch scandal is officially in office.
Winnie Brinks was sworn in Saturday as 76th District State Representative at the Grand Rapids Public School Administration building.
She avoided talking about the Schmidt scandal and instead focused on her priorites as representative.
Brinks is new to politics. She says one of her top goals is to strengthen Grand Rapids Public Schools and other districts in the state.
"Other things would be to make sure we're supporting middle-class families and working families and giving them the resources and tools that they need to be successful," she said.
Brinks starts in Lansing on January 1.
