GRAND RAPIDS, (WZZM) -- Many of us are familiar with Christmas approaching, but the Jewish faith is already in its holy period.

Hanukkah is an eight day celebration marked by the lighting of the menorah. Sunday is the second day of the holiday.

In Calder Plaza a local synagogue lit the second candle. Eventually all eight will be lit as a symbol of light over darkness, purity, and kindness.

Many families celebrate with family, sharing stories and games around the menorah.
