Muskegon County senior assistant prosecutor D.J. Hilson says Shirey was hit in the ankle during the gun battle, but was treated and released from a Muskegon-area hospital on Saturday.

Shirey has been with the Muskegon Police Department for more than 20 years, serving as a patrol officer, detective and supervisor.

Hilson says a decision on charges against the suspect in the shootout is expected Tuesday.
