MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- A veteran Muskegon Police officer is expected to make a full recovery after she was hit in the ankle during a weekend shootout.
Sgt. Monica Shirey was one of the officers who responded to help Muskegon County Sheriff's deputies at the scene of a domestic call and shooting early Saturday morning in Cedar Creek Township.

Muskegon County senior assistant prosecutor D.J. Hilson says Shirey was hit in the ankle during the gun battle, but was treated and released from a Muskegon-area hospital on Saturday.
Shirey has been with the Muskegon Police Department for more than 20 years, serving as a patrol officer, detective and supervisor.
Hilson says a decision on charges against the suspect in the shootout is expected Tuesday.
