Two people buying items for Toys for Tots won a Kohl's contest that paid for all of their purchases.
GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) -- A West Michigan business is doubling its donations to Toys for Tots after winning a contest by Kohl's.
Two employees of Lake Michigan Credit Union were shopping for Toys for Tots Thursday, using $1,600 in customer and employee donations. When they finally got to the cash register, women found out they had been randomly chosen to win Kohl's "Dream Receipt" -- meaning the store would pay for all of their purchases.
"We cried...we both stood and cried," says Vickie Smith, the credit union's director of business development & community involvement. "There were people over at other cash registers that cried with us. We had our pictures taken. Everybody was just so happy that the person who won it is giving it all to charity."
"We know the need out there, and it's just going to be a great holiday for all," says Rachel Decker, business development & community involvement coordinator for the credit union.
The credit union workers used the money intended for the purchases to buy even more toys at Kohl's.
This is the second year Lake Michigan Credit Union has participated in the Toys for Tots campaign.
