Anibal Sanchez reportedly to choose between Tigers & Cubs

DETROIT, Mich. (Detroit Free Press) - After weeks of little news on Anibal Sanchez, conflicting reports emerged Thursday.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted in the afternoon that the right-hander was going to the Cubs, but later said the Tigers were still in on retaining him after they bumped up their offer.

As of the early evening, the gist of it was that the Tigers are being given the last chance to match the Cubs' offer after the Cubs thought they had Sanchez signed.

Gene Mato, Sanchez's agent, told Nightengale: "He has not decided. Negotiations are ongoing ..."

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports the sides are discussion a 5-year deal in the $75-million range. The reported asking price early on in the off-season was six years, $90 million.

Meanwhile, Danny Knobler of CBS Sports says there is a reasonable chance that Sanchez stays in Detroit.

Sanchez pitched for the Tigers and Miami Marlins this past season, going 9-13 with a 3.86 ERA, including 4-6 and 3.74 in 12 starts with Detroit. Here are the potential ramifications both ways:
