GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Five people have been fatally shot in the city of Grand Rapids in the past four days. The latest deadly shooting happened just before noon at the Arbor Circle counseling center on Ball Street. Three people were shot in an apparent double murder-suicide.
It happened after a counseling session between a man and a woman. "After session, they went into their vehicle. There was a shot heard. When investigators got there, we found two females deceased, 21 and 31. And a 27-year old male, with a self inflicted gun wound," says Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk.
Police believe the man killed the two women and then killed himself. He was taken to the hospital, but died a short time later. "We do believe the male and female were involved in a relationship and had a child in common. We're still trying to sort out why the 3rd individual was with them."
The staff and clients, inside the facility, were told to stay inside, until the investigation was complete.
With the recent mass shootings, Arbor Circle CEO, Jack Greenfield says, the scene was difficult to understand. "It's a very tragic situation that creates trauma within people's lives as they think about most recent difficulties in Connecticut. People are on edge anyway."
Grand Rapids police say the handgun used in the shootings, has been recovered. So far, they have released no motive about what caused the man to shoot the two women.
