FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM)-Prayers for Newtown, Connecticut continue in West Michigan.

Word of Hope Church held a vigil in Fruitport Township Wednesday night to pray for the victims of last week's shootings.

Adam Lanza shot and killed his mother at her home, then traveled to Sandy Hook Elementary, where he killed 20 children and six adults before turning the gun on himself.

"It's affected all of us because we all have kids. Most of us are parents or grandparents and we care about kids. When something lit this happens, it's pretty gut wrenching," says pastor John Koedyker.

Pastor Koedyker says the idea for Wednesday night's vigil came about during Sunday's service.
