HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- An Ottawa County deputy is recovering after fighting with a suspect over a gun hidden in the man's waistband.

It happened around 2 a.m. Thursday in Holland Township.  Deputies were acting on a report of three men who had taken a large amount of alcohol from the Meijer store on Westshore Drive.

Deputies spotted the suspects' vehicle on Riley Street near 120th Avenue and pulled it over.  After asking the men to get out of the car, one officer spotted a handgun in a suspect's pants waistband.

Deputies tried to detain the man and secure the weapon, but the man fought back.  One officer was injured in the struggle.  He was treated at the scene and released.  Other investigators were able to subdue the suspect and secure his Magnum revolver.

The other suspects surrendered to police without incident.

Officers are not naming the suspects until they appear in court on Thursday, though detectives say charges will include retail fraud, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm and felony firearm, and cocaine possession.
