Suspect charged with trying to rob woman in parking lot

UPDATE 12/25/12 - Raymon Martin Gaytan, 45, was charged Tuesday for trying to rob a woman on Christmas Eve. 

The Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office filed a charge of assault with intent to rob while armed with a dangerous weapon against Gaytan. He faces up to life in prison. 

He is currently in the Ottawa County jail on a $25,000 bond. Gaytan is from the Holland area. 

HOLLAND, Mi (WZZM) - One man is in custody after police say he tried to to rob a 67 year old woman in the Holland Meijer parking lot.

The victim told police she was getting out of her car when the suspect confronted her with a utility knife.  The suspect told her to get back in her vehicle, then kicked her.

The 45 year old male suspect fled from the area on foot.  The victim was cut by the suspect in her altercation with him but the injury was minor and didn't require any medical attention.

The suspect returned to the Meijer's parking lot around 10:30 and was taken into custody.  Investigators say they recovered  critical evidence from the suspects vehicle.
