Man charged in deadly Grand Rapids DUI crash

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A man is facing charges for a drunk driving crash that killed a child.

The driver of a Ford Explorer ran a red light Sunday at the intersection of Hall St. and Buchanan Ave. SW, running into the side of a Toyota.

An eight-year-old girl in the Toyota was killed.  Two other children in the car were injured.

The SUV driver and one of his passengers ran from the scene, but were later arrested.

The SUV driver, Byron Juarez, 21, appeared in court on Wednesday.  He is facing charges of "operating while intoxicated causing death" and "failure to stop at the scene of an accident."

The passenger who ran, Marco Coronado-Augustin, 25, is also charged with resisting and obstructing an officer.
