GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Degage Ministries is now able to provide shelter to more women across West Michigan. The outreach's Open Door Women's Center expanded by 50 percent. It can now accommodate 45 women each evening.
Women come to the Open Door Center as an alternative to sleeping outdoors, to escape domestic violence, or to find temporary shelter during transition.
Last year, the center experienced a 60 to 70 percent increase in the number of women looking for help.
"For the first time in nine years since this program opened, we were finding the need to turn women away. And we have done some modifications to our facility, and are now able to accommodate more women," says Marge Palmerlee of Degage Ministries.
Degage Ministries' Open Door Women's Center is located at 144 South Division Avenue.
