Perrigo headquarters in Allegan.
ALLEGAN, Mich. (WZZM) - Every company has a busy season. For Allegan's Perrigo, we're deep in the middle of it: Flu season.
"This time of year the employees are working 24/7. The operations are working full, they kind of know this is crunch time for us-- of making sure the consumers out there have what they need," said John Hendrickson, Perrigo's Executive Vice President.
Perrigo is the world's largest producer of over the counter, store brand pharmaceuticals. If you've ever bought aspirin at Walmart of flu relief at Meijer, it was made in Michigan, by Perrigo. 40 billion tablets are produced at its plants here each year.
This year, Perrigo is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
The company is now up to 4,000 employees in West Michigan; 500 of them hired in the past two years. Last year, global sales exceeded $3 billion, up 15 percent from the year before.
More growth is expected in the future, Hendrickson said. "As we grow we expect to grow in Michigan, we want to continue to grow in West Michigan, but also globally."
