LANSING, Mich. (WZZM) -- State workers are working overnight to make sure 85,000 families receiving food assistance get their benefits, following a "human error" that kept the money from going to their Bridge cards.

The problem affects Bridge card users with account numbers ending in the digit "0."

Benefits were supposed to be on the recipients' cards by 8 a.m. Thursday.  Cardholders began calling the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB), reporting the benefits were not in their accounts.

Kurt Weiss, DTMB spokesman, says workers discovered "a human error" had caused the problem, and immediately began working on computer programs to load the appropriate benefits into recipients' accounts.

Weiss expects 60% to 70% of Bridge card holders will have their benefits by Friday morning, though some families may have to wait until later in the day.

Anyone seeking updates on the status of their account, or with additional questions, is asked to call the customer service number at 1-888-678-8914.
