GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) It was the most embarrassing moment in the life of Detroit Red Wings prospect Riley Sheahan. Now he's trying to put it behind him.
Sheahan was arrested in the early hours of October 30th after driving the wrong way on Ottawa Avenue and registering a blood-alcohol level of .30, nearly four times the legal limit. Police dashcam video from the arrest shows Sheahan, a former Red Wing first-round draft pick, in a purple Teletubby costume.
"It was a bad decision," Sheahan said Friday in his first television interview since the arrest. "Now I'm just trying to move forward and I have a lot of time left in my journey and my career in hockey to recover from it and make some better decisions and try to teach people not to do the same thing that I did."
Sheahan, who was 20 at the time of arrest but is now 21, says he has not touched alcohol since and has no immediate plans to. "It's not a big deal and hasn't been so far. I have a really supportive team and a really supportive organization so I'm not getting pressured into doing anything I don't want to. You have to make sacrifices when you play a professional sport so that's just one of the ones I'm going to do."
