Elderly couple killed in home invasion in Kentwood

UPDATE: KENTWOOOD, Mich. (WZZM) - Kentwood Police say an elderly couple was murdered during a home invasion and they need your help finding the suspects.

Police say David Bouwman, 81 and his wife Vivian 80, were killed in there home at 2289 Stowe Valley SE sometime between 7:00 Friday night and 8:00 Saturday morning.

According to police the suspects stole the couples gold Cadillac Deville which as later dumped and burned near the 3800 block of Madison in Wyoming.

Police are asking you to call if you saw any suspicious persons or vehicles near either crime scene.

Neighbors are reeling from the news of Bouwman's murders.

Neighbor Jon Nixon says, "It hits obviously close to home considering it's right across the street from us and it's freaky we have two kids." 

Nixon and his family were out of town when police say the murders happened.

"It could have been us. A part of us wonders why they didn't break into our home, we weren't even in town, no lives would have been lost." 

Neighbor Stephen Harris says this wasn't the first time there has been a break in. He says the Bouwman's neighbor's home was broken into just a few weeks ago.

Neighbors say it has them concerned the two are connected. Though police have not made that determination.
