KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WZZM) -A sewage spill near Kalamazoo has dumped at least 300,000 gallons of waste into the wetlands by Averill Lake.

Authorities believe the spill took place on December 29th and was caused by a blockade of rags.  Crews removed the rags and they say the spill won't cause any long-term damage to the area.

The same area was affected in 2011 when vandalism caused 600,000 gallons of sewage to overflow.
