KENTWOOD (WZZM) - People in a Kentwood neighborhood will gather Tuesday night to remember a couple shot and killed in a home invasion.
David Bouwman, 81, and his wife, Vivian, 80, were found dead in their house at 2289 Stowe Valley SE sometime between 7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.
The Kentwood police chief says the elderly couple was shot, however autopsy results are still pending.
Detectives believe someone attempted to break into several homes on the street that night including the neighbor's home. Footprints led from the neighbor's home to the Bowman's home, where a back door window was found broken.
Police were called to the Bouwman's blue, two-story house Saturday morning after their gold Cadillac Deville was found on fire in the 3800 block of Madison Avenue SE in Wyoming.
A resident tells WZZM 13 the Bowman's next door neighbor had a break-in after posting his car on Craigslist about 3 weeks ago.
Kentwood Police confirmed the home-invasion at the neighbor's home in December, and are investigating this tip and several others to see if there is a connnection.
The vigil for the Bouwmans will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Pinewood Park, that's at Wolfboro and Brattleboro Drives inside the Princeton Estates subdivision. Neighbors say they have been scared by Saturday's murders and are talking about forming a neighborhood watch.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Kentwood Police Department at (616) 698-6580 or Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345.
