Grand Rapids City Clerk Lauri Parks.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Grand Rapids City Commissioners Tuesday approved two percent pay hikes for three of the city's top four appointed officials. The only one not to receive the raise was City Clerk Lauri Parks.
Mayor George Heartwell would not detail why Parks' pay was not boosted, while that of the City Manager, City Attorney and City Treasurer was.
"In granting a two percent wage increase this year we recognize that it's merit based. There was exemplary performance on the part of these three appointed officials," Heartwell said. "There are performance issues we're working to resolve" with Parks.
City Commissioner Elias Lumpkins voted against increasing the pay of 3 officials, but not the clerk.
"She has increased the number of people registered to vote and I think we should look at this as positive," he said before the 5-2 vote.
Parks did not have any comment on the action. "It's a personal matter" she said.
