GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The flu outbreak in West Michigan is causing two schools to close Wednesday.
At Lake Michigan Academy in Grand Rapids so many staff members have the flu the school can't open. Palo Community Schools in Ionia County report bus drivers and children are sick. Staff members still have to report there.
Janitors at both schools will spend the day cleaning the buildings.
The Kent County Health Department reports the confirmed number of flu cases in Kent County has reached 463 this season-- a slight increase from last week. Flu season typically peaks in February/March, but this year, the onset of cases has arrived several weeks early.
