GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Grand Rapids Police are investigating an attempted abduction in the Alger Heights neighborhood.

Police say that an 11-year-old girl was walking home alone Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Hazen Street SE, when an unknown man grabbed her and tried to drag her toward a truck.  She was able to break free, run to a safe place and call police.  She told authorities that she had never seen the suspect before.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his 30s, about 5'10" tall, skinny, with brown or red sideburns that were sticking out of his hat.  He was wearing a red winter hat with a bill that had an Arizona Cardinal logo.  He was also wearing a black "bubble coat."  The girl described the suspect's finger nails as being chewed short and he had a tattoo of a guitar on one of his hands.

The girl described his vehicle as a dark blue, newer and clean Dodge Ram regular cab truck.

Anyone with information is asked to call GRPD at 456-3604 or Silent Observer at 774-2345.
