Fullerton, CA (Sports Network) - Kwame Vaughn hit a fall-away jumper as time
expired as the Cal State Fullerton Titans survived at home, 71-69, over the UC
Riverside Highlanders in a Big West Conference bout at Titan Gym.
Vaughn struggled from the field, making just 2-of-11 shots, but he hit the big
one and finished with 12 points as Cal State Fullerton (10-6, 3-0 Big West)
won for the seventh time in its last eight contests. Sammy Yeager had the hot
hand for the Titans all night, leading them with 19 points on 7-of-11 from the
floor and 5-of-8 from behind the arc. D.J. Seeley contributed 18 points, six
assists and five steals and Deuce Johnson scored 11 points.
Josh Fox hit 8-of-10 from the field for 19 points and nine rebounds to lead
the Highlanders (4-12, 1-3). Chris Patton also had a terrific shooting night
with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting while Chris Harriel netted 13 points.
The home team led from the tip, jumping out to an 8-2 lead and 34-28 halftime
advantage thanks to 14 points from Yeager. UC Riverside trailed despite
outrebounding Cal State Fullerton 17-7.
Riverside shot 61.5 percent in the final 20 minutes and held a 59-53 lead
midway through the half but surrendered their lead moments later. Things got
interesting down the stretch as Fox and Patton scored consecutive baskets at
the rim to tie the game at 69-69 with 16 seconds remaining before Vaughn won
it for Cal State Fullerton.
Cal State Fullerton now leads the all-time series, 25-17.
