Amelia Flemming was invited to attend the Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C.
EAST GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - President Barack Obama will be sworn into officer for his second term next Monday and a West Michigan girl will be there for it.
Amelia Flemming was nominated by her fourth grade teacher for the People to People Ambassadorship. After completing three assignments and waiting two years, Amelia received a letter in the mail inviting her to the inauguration. As part of her trip to Washington D.C., Amelia will watch President Obama take the oath of office, attend an inaugural ball, and visit a Smithsonian museum.
"I got a camera for Christmas just for this and I'm going to take a lot of pictures," said Amelia Flemming.
"These are the stories a long time from now she'll be able to share with her children, with her grandchildren and that's something that's historic and I hope she soaks every bit of those opportunities in," says Peter Stuursma, Principal of East Grand Rapids Middle School.
Amelia leaves for the nation's capitol Friday.
