GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - A historic Grand Rapids church is about to undergo a major renovation in 2013, turning it into a 37-unit apartment building.

Bethel Pentecostal Church in the 800 block of Lake Drive SE will be renovated starting in February.  The church was built in 1923, underwent an expansion in 1967, and housed several different congregations over the years.

The renovations planned by Brookstone Capital, Wolverine Building Group, and Progressive AE will retain the main facade, including the exterior brickwork and columns of the original building, and add a contemporary style two story addition on top.  The building will then be four stories tall.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
